NY1: Queens Middle School Teacher Accused of Sexual Abuse Found NOT GUILTY at trial; Matthew Myers, trial counsel
A Queens middle school teacher was arrested Wednesday, charged with sexually abusing a 14-year-old student.
Lalsingh Narainsingh faces sex abuse and child endangerment charges.
The district attorney says Narainsingh molested the student in June 2004 after offering to pay him $20 for oral sex.
Narainsingh allegedly lured the student into an empty classroom at I.S. 59 by requesting the student’s help cleaning up the classroom. Prosecutors claim that’s when he sexually abused the student.
The boy’s mother called police after he told her what happened.
The Department of Education has placed Narainsingh on an ineligible list, meaning he can’t work in city schools, even if he is acquitted.
If convicted, Narainsingh faces up to seven years in prison.
